Pieathalon 2017

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I joined in with Yinzerella’s third annual Pieathalon. This year my challenge was to bake the Torta di Pistacchio from The Art of Italian Cooking.

I’m afraid this post will be brief, as I managed to sustain a ridiculous freak accident this morning. Suffice to say that in the battle between my little finger and the letterbox, the letterbox won… A jolly morning at A&E followed and I have to go back on Monday for them to decide whether I need stitches. It’s not pretty and I’m assuming that the dog has eaten the bit of fingernail that came off. Typing is tricky.

My baking was therefore delayed but the Torta di Pistacchio is made. I adapted the recipe a little, but the sherry flavoured pastry tasted good raw – still a child at heart.

I have to pop out and it’s too hot to taste, but looks promising. I will cut myself a slice later and post my comment.

  • Wishing you a speedy recovery!

  • What a trooper! …and STILL got a delicious looking pie baked!

Wow. Your letterbox must be evil to do your hand like that. And the pie looks so lovely! I am reeeally curious how it’s going to taste.

  • Hope you recover quickly! Enjoy the pie!
I am so looking forward to meeting you next weekend. I can hardly wait! xx

  • OH, the things we do in the name of blogging!
Update us on the taste ASAP–and heal ASAP!

I am on the mend – thank you for you kind wishes for my recovery from the stupid injury my fellow bloggers 🙂 I have finally tasted the pie and it is definitely vintage. I’m not sure I would rush to bake it again, but it is weirdly OK (and a whole lot better than the rum pie that SilverScreenSuppers Jenny baked)

Do go on! I’ve been staring at this recipe for some time before I sent it in, wondering just what sort of pie it would make.

  • Is “definitely vintage” damning with faint praise?! I cannot wait to hear the full story of the letterbox on Thursday. I hope that Lacey enjoyed the fingernail – ha ha!

I LIKE the idea of sherry in pastry, naturally!
